William "Bill"
Jaskulka
December 11, 1929 – November 4, 2022
William "Bill" J. Jaskulka, 92, formerly of Grenville SD and Webster SD, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 4, 2022 at the Strand-Kjorsvig Home, Grenville.
Services will be livestreamed via Coester Funeral Home Facebook page.
Military Graveside rites will be conducted by the Henning Shemanski American Post #267, Grenville.
On December 11, 1929, on the family farm near Grenville, SD, William John Jaskulka was born to John and Rose (Snaza) Jaskulka. He was the youngest of seven children, joining his only brother, Theodore "Ted" and his five sisters, twins Philomena "Minnie" and Albina, Lillian, Sally and Ann.
Bill attended a country school about 2 miles from his home and was an 8 th Grade Graduate. At the age of 15 he started farming to help support his father (who was unable to work because of a stroke), his mother and his sister, Philomena, who was crippled since birth. The family moved in to Grenville, SD in the winter of 1953 after Bill was drafted into the U.S. Army.
Bill met his future wife, Adeline Kurkowski, at a house party when they were both 12 years old, of course, it took some years before they were united in marriage on October 27, 1953 at St Otto's Catholic Church, Webster SD.
Bill was inducted into the Army on December 7, 1953 and was stationed in Fort Riley KS for two years. Adeline joined him shortly after he completed his basic training.
After Bill's discharge, they returned to South Dakota and rented a farm southeast of Pickerel Lake for a short time, in 1955 they purchased the homestead now owned by their son, Roger (Dawn) Jaskulka. Together they journeyed through the next 51 years working the land, along with dairy/stock cattle and raising hogs. Bill also ran a septic pumping business, BJ's Septic, around the area for many years. Upon their retirement in 2006, they moved to our Mom's dream home of the little yellow house on the corner in Webster SD, where Dad resided until August 2022.
Bill was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Grenville SD; Christ the King Catholic Church, Webster SD and the Grenville American Legion.
When he was not busy in the field, doing chores, tinkering in the garage or "fixing" something, he enjoyed a peaceful afternoon of ice fishing or snowmobiling. And he was always ready for a game of softball or volley ball on the front yard with us kids.
While living in Webster, he was notorious for his daily walks, did not matter what kind of weather, when the temps started to dip, he always said, "I just put on another jacket". He was also the guy who saw worth in everything. On his jaunts around town, he was forever picking up old lights or fans, taking them home, rewiring them and then donating them to some unsuspecting recipient. He was dedicated to the wildlife that inhabited his backyard by keeping everything feed and the past few years had perfected his cooking and baking skills.
Bill is survived by his children, Robert "Bob" (Karen) Jaskulka, Grenville SD, Jeanette "Jean" (Ronnie) Chmela, Mitchell SD, Sharon (Garrett) Rogers, Rice Lake WI and Roger (Dawn) Jaskulka, Grenville SD; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Florence Davidson, Duluth MN, Esther Kirchmeier, Vista CA and James (Marcia) Kurkowski, Omaha NE; grandchildren/step-grandchildren, Tricia (Brent) Cook, Tea SD; Colette (Sam) Schwartz, Tea SD; Tom Jaskulka, Tea SD; Kelly (Lacey) Boik, Grenville SD; Ashley Overweg, Sioux Falls SD; Christopher Rogers, Forest Lake WI, Derrick (Elana) Rogers, Cameron WI, Bryce (Kendra) Rogers, Chippewa Falls WI, Natasha Rogers, Siren WI and Jared Rogers, Rice Lake WI; Kayla Kortleever (Kole Holman), Sisseton, SD; Chelsea (Derek) Vogel, Onaka SD; Cody (Kari) Jaskulka, Wilmot SD and Travis Jaskulka, Britton SD; numerous great-grandchildren/step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
