Ronald McMurtry, 73, of Webster, SD died Monday, May 16, at his residence.
Ronald Vaughn "Mac" McMurtry was born December 18, 1942 in Manyaska Township, Martin County, MN the son of Glen and Clara McMurtry. He attended school in Ceylon, MN and graduated from Ceylon High School in 1960. After completing 3 years of college, Ron was united in marriage to Benadene Huntley on April 4, 1964 in Dolliver, IA. During the marriage, Ron raised two children, Rondee and Chad, and worked for John Morrell's, farmed, raised Duroc hogs, and among other things, ran RVM Trucking in the Ceylon / Dolliver area.
Following his divorce in 1994, Ron began a relationship with Sharon Altom that lasted until his passing. They established Elk Creek South Devon and raised cattle in Welcome, MN and later, Webster, SD where they were united in marriage January 12, 2008.
Ron was not only an avid hunter but also enjoyed all things outdoors, breeding and raising purebred livestock, and sharing memories with friends and family over coffee and cookies.
Ron died Monday afternoon May 16, 2016 at his ranch in Webster, surrounded by family and friends at the age 73 years, five months and 29 days.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon McMurtry of Webster, SD; six children- Rondee Hensley and her husband, Doug of Fairmont, MN, Chad McMurtry of Trimont, MN, Sharon Goodrich of Webster, Lisa Miller of Cincinnati, OH, Ron Miller of Larchwood, IA and Jodi Miller of Webster; fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; One brother Larry McMurtry and his wife Trudy of St Elmo, MN; sister Anita McMurtry of St Paul, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
