Richard Abernathy, 75, of Webster died Sunday, July 24, at his residence.

Private family services will be held at the family's residence.

Richard was born on March 5, 1947 in Granite Falls, MN to Hugh & Martha (Nordang) Abernathy.  He attended and later graduated from Granite Falls High School.  Following school he attended Granite Falls Vo-Tech.

Richard worked as a carpenter in the Granite Falls area. Richard married Linda Siewert on May 2, 1974 in Las Vegas, NV.  They lived in rural Granite Falls until 1976, when they moved to Northwestern AZ, where he worked as a carpenter and built their family home there. He also became a journeyman electrician at Southern California Edison Power Plant in Laughlin, NV.

In 1996 Richard and his family moved to rural Webster where Richard worked at Terex in Watertown and also did carpentry work.  Richard retired in 2006.

Richard enjoyed spending time in nature, modifying kayaks and recumbent bicycles, and touring on his creations across the upper Midwest.

Richard is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda of rural Webster; his two sons, Patrick of Webster and Matthew (Fujimi Sugiyama) of Columbia, MD; one grandson, Rio Abernathy; and two brothers, Howard (Karen) of Minnesota and Roger (Sarah LaBatte) Granite Falls, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
