Pearl Louise Wangsness(Peggy)passed away on Tuesday, June 14 th , 2022 at the Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown, SD.  Ironically, she passed away on her 89 th birthday.  Peggy was born on June 14, 1934 to Carl and Mae Fischer at Herried, SD. She was the second of five children. She later moved with her family to Miller, SD.  After graduating from high school in Miller, she began working at Fairmont Ice Cream.  One day while walking home in the rain in her band uniform, a young man named Orley Wangsness saw her and offered her a ride.  That chance meeting led to Peggy and Orley being married at the Lutheran church in Miller, SD.

After marriage, Peggy remained in Miller for a time while Orley was away in the US Army.  Their son, Michael Carl, was born during this time.  Later, she and Mike were able to join Orley at Ft. Bragg, NC.  After Orley's discharge from the Army, they returned to Miller, SD.  Orley worked as a school teacher and he and Peggy also began farming south of Miller. After farming for several years, Peggy and Orley moved to Brookings, SD where Orley continued his education at SDSU.  Peggy and Orley then moved to Watertown where he taught for many years at schools in the area and also worked in construction.

Peggy worked for many years in Watertown for prominent people in the community assisting them in their homes.  Peggy loved flowers and home decoration.  Her home was always extremely neat and well decorated. She was known for being hospitable and enjoyed entertaining people in her home on Lake Kampeska.  Many, many people have very fond memories of Peggy. She was a member of the Church of God.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Orley Wangsness and son, Michael Wangsness, both of Watertown and sisters and husbands, Judy and Merle Jenner of Miller and Mary and Alan Nedved of Pierre, SD, brother-in-law, Tollef LeRoy Wangsness of Miller, and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Orley's parents, Tollef and Etta Wangsnes, brothers Bob and Carl Fischer, sister-in-law Ardean Wangsness and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Rosemary and Art Kruger.
