Patricia "Pat"
Peterson
May 1, 1929 – May 26, 2021
Livestream video will be aired on Coester Funeral Home Facebook page at 2 PM.
Patricia "Pat" Katherine Mae McKane Peterson, 92, of Bristol, SD passed away peacefully at Sun Dial Manor, Bristol on Wednesday, May 26, 2021.
Patricia McKane was born in Andover, SD on May 1, 1929 to James & Leila (Machmiller) McKane. Pat grew up on a family farm by Andover, SD driving trucks and tractors and enjoying farm life. She attended elementary and graduated from the Andover school.
Patricia married Jerry Peterson on January 18, 1947 in Leola, SD and to that union two children were born, Sherry Lee and Marie Linda. They made their home on a farm by Andover and later resided just outside Bristol, SD. The couple divorced in 1988 after 41 years of marriage, then later remarried in 1997. Jerry and Pat were entrepreneurs, they had a custom harvesting business, Peterson Farms, cattle feeding, and they were some of the first Super 8 Motel owners in the country. Jerry came up with the ideas and Pat saw them through, she was not afraid to swing a hammer or use a staple gun to get the job done.
Pat was continually active in the community, she was in many clubs and organizations, served on many boards through the years, she sat on the original Sun Dial Manor board of directors. Patricia and her family donated generously to many local organizations and were a big part of getting the Webster Area Sports Complex project off the ground. Pat never liked to be told she could not accomplish something, so when Jerry said she could not become an airplane pilot, she took lessons, and flew many solo flights! When she was told she would not enjoy traveling to one of Logan's fights, she informed us she still had her pilot's license, and she could fly there on her own.
Pat loved her grandchildren, Perry Zimmerman, Jodi Storley, Trever Bakke, and the late Travis Bakke. She attended many ball games, and wrestling matches. Pat attended most of Logan's college wrestling events and was the belle of the ball at all the socials, she even scored a ride from the motel to the NCAA event center in a Bentley with the Minnesota boosters she made friends with through the seasons. Pat made friends wherever she went, and she didn't need a map to tell you how to get there. There were many trips that she indeed did know better than Google maps, near the end she wasn't always sure who was who, but we are quite sure she could get us anywhere we needed to go without a map. She supported her family full heartedly in whatever they did. Her great-grandchildren Jarett Zimmerman, Briana Aadland, Colby Dauwen, Logan, Jade and Janessa Storley were so blessed to have "Grandma Pat" in their lives, all their friends loved her and referred to her as "Grandma Pat" as she was a huge part of their lives.
Preceding Pat in death were her husband Jerry Peterson, daughters Sherry Zimmerman and Marie Bakke, grandson, Travis Bakke, mother-in-law Gert Simonson, her brother James McKane II, sisters Phyllis Gannon, Shirley Huyck, and her parents James and Leila.
Patricia is survived by her grandchildren Perry Zimmerman of Andover, Jodi (Larry) Storley of Roslyn, Trever Bakke of St. Francis, MN, 7 great-grandchildren and 6 great- great-grandchildren, her sister Kay Totzke, brother-in-law Jim (Alice Jean) Peterson, Bristol and many nieces and nephews.
