Patricia "Pat" Marx, 82 of Bristol died Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Manor Care Nursing Home, Aberdeen.
Mary Patricia (Murphy) Marx was born November 13, 1933 to James and Alice (Norris) Murphy at Andover SD. She attended Andover school and graduated in 1951.
She married James Marx on Sept. 26, 1953 and together had a family of 8 children.
Patricia (Pat) taught school at Farmington Rural School for two years. She began playing the organ at an early age at the Andover Catholic church and then Bristol and since July of 2003 had been playing at the Groton Catholic Church. She was a 4-H leader, taught 8th grade religion classes and did substitute teaching at Bristol School. In 1980 she began cooking at the Bristol School lunchroom and retired in 1995 but continued substituting until the school closed in 2004. She was Bristol township treasurer for 33 years, worked the U.S. Census 3 times and sat election board many years. She loved to volunteer at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol playing the organ and piano for sing- along, rhythm band and church services for the residents. She received the SD Health Care Association Adult Volunteer of the year in 2013. Pat loved music and always was at the piano on the farm for the kids and grandkids. Pat and Jim enjoyed dancing with their friends, cooking for her family gatherings, walking, reading, and golfing.
Pat is survived by her husband Jim of Bristol, four daughters Colleen (Doug) Kozel, Pierre; Carol Bain, Rantoul, Ill.; Joan (Jon) Biersbach, Bristol; Mary (Dave) Bergjord, Aberdeen; four sons, Gordy Marx, Brookings, Don (Evonne) Marx, Aberdeen; Ken (Rita) Marx, Waubay, and Ron Marx, Brookings.
She has ten grandchildren Lane and Lindsey Kozel, Carrie Bain, Nic (Ashley) Biersbach, Annie and Luke Bergjord, Casey Jo (Casey) Thompson, Hailey Marx, Mike Tiggelaar, and Eric Marx. She has 2 great grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren.
