Orville C. Haselhorst, 84, of Webster, SD died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Sanford Hospital, Webster.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Monday, January 4, 2010 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Webster with Rev's Daniel and Kristin Ostercamp officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Coester Funeral Home, Webster. Visitation will resume again one hour prior to the services at the church.
Orville was born on August 1, 1925 in Aberdeen, SD to William and Ida (Steger) Haselhorst. He was raised on the family farm West of Mansfield, SD while attending grade and high school. He graduated from Northville High School in 1943 and joined the US Navy in June 1943 and served during WWII until August 1946.
He married Isabelle Zipf from Bristol, SD on September 3, 1949 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Aberdeen, SD.
Orville farmed for a couple of years while his brother Bill was in Korea. He then worked for Implement Dealers in Aberdeen, Mansfield and Ipswich as partsman and salesman. Orville then purchased the Day County Implement in Webster, SD on November 15, 1960. He owned and operated the Day County Implement until January 1977. He continued to work at the Implement as a sales manager until 1985. He then worked as a Real Estate Salesman for Larsen Realty for a couple of years. On January 1, 1989 Orville was elected to the Day County Commission for District 2 serving for 16 years when he fully retired.
Orville served on Webster City Council, member and past president of the Webster Development Corporation, past member of Webster Chamber of Commerce, past member and charter member of Webster Lions Club. Orville was a 50-year member of the American Legion both in Mansfield and Webster serving as Commander. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and served on the Council, was president and also taught Sunday school.
Orville enjoyed being with family, friends, traveling, fishing, cooking, working for Day County and he loved his church.
Grateful for having shared his life is his 3 daughters; Wanda Anderson, Big Lake, MN, Wendy (John) Harris, Odessa, TX, Connie (Jerry) Grogan, Huron, SD, 7 grandchildren Kari Quayle, Shallah (Jason) Eckols, William Hammond, Jill (Joe) Erickson, Sami (Jake) Crick, Steven Grogan, Michael Grogan, 4 great-grandchildren one special friend Marlys Clausen, Webster, SD, and 3 brothers; Aldon Haselhorst, Aberdeen, SD, Bill (Darleen) Haselhorst, Mansfield, SD, and Delbert (Darlene) Haselhorst, Cresbard, SD.
Orville was preceded in death by his parents, wife Isabelle, and one infant brother Kenneth.
