Obituary

Maxine Ohnstad, 90, of Littleton, Colorado and formerly of Webster passed away March 20, 2009 at Life Care Center in Littleton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 Friday, March 27, 2009 Christ The King Catholic Church, Webster. Burial will be in St. Otto's Cemetery, Webster.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 Thursday at Christ The King Church, Webster with a wake service at 7:00 all at the church.

Maxine McCready was born Jan. 20, 1919, in Fingal, ND, to Edgar and Gladys McCready. Maxine and her brother, Howard, were raised by their grandparents, William and Ida Rooney. The family moved to Fairmount, ND, in 1931. She graduated from Fairmount High School in 1936. During her school years, Maxine acquired her love of dancing as she excelled academically and musically.

After graduation, Maxine began her extended business career when she became Assistant Business Manager for Gamble Robinson in Fairmount, later moving on to Fergus Fruit of Fergus Falls, MN, as Business Manager until 1942. She married Oliver Ohnstad on April 18, 1942, in Ellendale, MN. Following Oliver's 1945 return from U.S. Navy service, the Ohnstad family resided in Fairmount, Owatonna, MN, Chicago, IL, St. Paul, MN, Neosho, MO, and Hillsboro, ND. During this period, Maxine was Business Manager for Cudahy Packing in Fairmount and for Midwest Produce in Hillsboro. In 1954, the family moved to Webster, SD, where Maxine and Oliver both were employed by Powers Produce Co.

Maxine began employment as an accountant at Webster's Langager Implement Co. in 1958. In 1961, she assumed a position as office manager for the Mason-Rust Saline Water Treatment facility, where she oversaw day-to-day financial activities and plant personnel, including several employees from the Far East. Following the expiration of the Mason-Rust government contract in 1969, Maxine accepted a similar position at the newly established Lake Region Voc-Ed Center in Webster. She worked there until her retirement in 1985.

Maxine had many interests, including dancing, bowling, baking, cooking and music.
She also was an avid baseball fan, and joined her family in many baseball-related activities and trips. She was an active member of Webster's Christ the King Catholic Church, where she participated in Catholic Daughters and the church auxiliary.

Maxine is survived by her three children: Duane of Denver, CO; Terry of Littleton, CO; and Kathy of Highlands Ranch, CO. She had seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver, one daughter in infancy, her brother, Howard, and her parents.
