Loraine was born in Roslyn, SD to Joe and Eva (Rebelski) Snaza. She was an only child. After graduation from Roslyn High school she attended Northern State College in Aberdeen to get a provisional teaching degree. She taught in a rural school near Roslyn for 2 years.
Loraine married Theodore Herrick and they purchased an acreage just ½ mile north of Roslyn. That is where she lived as a hardworking housewife. She worked her entire life right beside her sons and husband picking rocks, hauling bales, milking cows and doing everything she could to make the farm successful
During her free time she enjoyed talking on the telephone to her friends and getting a group of people to play cards in the evenings. She always made time to stock her deep freeze with special cookies and other lunch items.
Loraine acquired a special skill of gardening. Her garden was always full of beautiful tomatoes, cabbage, carrots and potatoes.
After they retired from farming Ted and Loraine became licensed to do adult foster care. Many adults called her house their home. She cooked and pampered all of them like they were her own.
Loraine also made time for her passion of scrapbooking. She enjoyed taking those books out and going through the history of deaths, weddings and births of the area friends and relatives that she knew.
When her husband passed away in 1992 she continued to do the foster care until her Parkinson's took over her independence. She lived a number of years in California with her son, Richard, until she needed more care and moved to the Roslyn Nursing Home.
She is preceded in death by her husband Theodore, their daughter Linda and their son Timothy.
She leaves behind four sons: Michael-Ft. Pierre, Richard-Denver, Kelly-Bloomington/Normal IL, and Kevin-Des Moines, Iowa, and one granddaughter Michelle.
