LeRoy K Monson was born August 14, 1935 to Kenneth and Emma (Schaffer) Monson. His entire life, LeRoy lived in the Spring Valley township.

Throughout the area, LeRoy was well known as a gifted sheep shearer. Learning the trade at 14, LeRoy spent his lifetime committed to the craft. He became a member of the South Dakota Sheep Growers Association and also a buyer for numerous wool companies. While well accomplished and talented in his career, his heart of service is how many will remember him. Often, LeRoy sheared young 4-H'ers lambs free of charge. He would even attend the 4-H BBQ to support the youth he helped and celebrate their successes.

On January 22, 1957, LeRoy married Margaret (Peggy) DesLauriers. Together, they raised seven children.

One of his proudest accomplishments was in 1973, a two-story house was moved onto the family farm. LeRoy undertook the task of remodeling it. Despite not being a professional carpenter, LeRoy was able to make the house into a home.

This home hosted many gatherings. It is a special place in the memories of LeRoy's children, 24 grandchildren, and 43 great-grandchildren. You can imagine a family that big got loud. Although at times he complained about it, we could tell he truly loved every moment.

Daily, friends and neighbors stopped by to visit. LeRoy was always there for people and had a cup of coffee always ready to be poured. His great memory served him well in conversation. No matter the question, LeRoy had the answer.

LeRoy was truly a people person. He hardly missed Lutefisk or fall church suppers. There, no matter who he sat by he could find a topic to talk about.

Grateful for sharing LeRoy's life are his wife Peggy; children , Jean (Randy) Rodell, Judy (Greg) Lynch, Jeff (Elaine) Monson, John (Kim) Monson, Jim (Joan) Monson, Jerry (Brenda) Monson, and Jennifer (Jason) Coester , his 24 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren.  Also survived by his siblings Darlene (Joe) Hanson, Janice Monson, and Stanley (Nyla) Monson

He was preceded in death by his parents , 2 grandchildren, and his 4 brothers.
