Obituary

Kenneth McLaughlin, 71, of Clear Lake and formerly of Watertown died Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center, Clear Lake.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013 at Coester Funeral Home, Webster. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Union Cemetery, Groton.

Friends may sign the register book one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Kenneth Leo McLaughlin was born to John & Dorothy (Traphagen) McLaughlin on June 15, 1942 in Britton, SD. Kenny was raised on a farm in Marshall County. He attended elementary school at Victor # 1 school and graduated from Havana High School in 1960.

After graduation Kenny farmed for a few years with his family. He decided to leave the farm and mov3ed to Groton where he worked for the Ford Dealership. While living in Groton he met his future wife Marion Harms. They were married June 3rd, 1967 in Groton and were together until Marion's death on December 31, 2000.

In 1968 they moved to Cedar Rapids, IA where Kenny worked for the Coke Bottling Plant. Not liking the big city life, they moved back to South Dakota settling in Watertown. Kenny worked for "Chickasha" Trailers for a while - he then worked for the City of Watertown until retiring.

Some things Kenny enjoyed was buying and repairing rental properties in the Watertown area, country western music, and spending time with his family.

Kenny's health started to fail after falling off the roof in 1999 and a second fall in January of 2010. He entered Good Samaritan Center – Duel County in Clear Lake, SD in February of 2010.

Kenny is survived by one sister; Joyce (Edwin) Brubakken of Britton, SD, two brothers; Gordon (Donna) of Oakes, ND, and Calvin (Dorothy) of Watertown, SD, 2 nieces, 6 nephews, and 12 great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one brother; Richard, and one great nephew.
