Obituary

Joseph J. Lesnar 88 of Grenville died yesterday, December 20, 2009 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown, South Dakota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December28, 2009, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grenville, South Dakota.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 27, 2009 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grenville.

Joseph "Joe" James Lesnar was born on March 21, 1921 to Bernard and Pelagia (Pionk) Lesnar on the family farm in Grenville Township, South Dakota. He was baptized at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Grenville and then attended St. Joseph's Catholic School through the 8th grade. After school he worked on the family farm supporting his family.

In 1942 he joined the Army and served during WWII. He was in the 104th Infantry Division, they were among the last troops to cross the Rhine at Remagen

On September 29th 1948 he married Evonne R. Maag at Florence, South Dakota. After their marriage they farmed in the Grenville Township until the late 1990's. Joe also worked construction from 1959 to 1974. Throughout their marriage Joe and Evonne traveled throughout the US, visiting friends and family often taking along their grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Joe was a happy and loving man, enjoying get togethers with family and friends, he was always joking and laughing. Joe also loved hunting and fishing especially when he was with his children, grand children, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Grateful for having shared his life is his wife Evonne of Grenville, South Dakota, daughters; Marilyn (Stan) Snaza of Roslyn, South Dakota, Charlotte (Terry) Kugler, Winlock, Washington, grandsons; Kirk (Marne) Snaza, Sisseton, South Dakota, Thad (Dally) Sichmeller, Roslyn, South Dakota, Todd (Kristin) Sichmeller, Greeley, Colorado, his granddaughter Shannon (Nate) Tenold, Fort Collins, Colorado, 6 great granddaughters, 3 great grandsons, two brothers; Stanley (Delores) Lesnar, Grenville, South Dakota, James (Kathy) Lesnar, Worthington, Minnesota, and five sisters; Artie Stegora, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mary (Leo) Kautz, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jenny (Kenneth) Flemming, Phoenix, Arizona, Stephanie Flemming, Watertown, South Dakota, and Sabina Anderson, Brainerd, Minnesota.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, one son Steve, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.
