James Lee Rood, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, at his cherished Rood Farm in Webster, South Dakota.
Funeral service honoring Jim's life will be held on September 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church, Webster. Friends and family are invited to come together to celebrate his life.

He was born on December 14, 1940, in Webster, South Dakota, to M. Thorwald and Nila (Metz) Rood. Jim lived a full and rewarding life, marked by his unwavering commitment to family, community, and his passions.
An alumnus of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Jim graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He devoted his working years to Control Data Corporation and General Dynamics, where his talents contributed to technological advancements that helped shape the computer industry.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jim was a gentle soul, known for his quiet demeanor and kind heart. He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He served on the boards of the Bethesda Home and the Museum of Wildlife, Science, and Industry.
Jim's love for the great outdoors was evident in his hobbies. An avid hunter and fisherman, he cherished time spent in nature, often sharing those experiences with family and friends. He was also a passionate gardener, finding joy in watching his plants thrive.
Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sandra, and their children: Heidi (Wade) Johnson, Heather (Eric) Kemp, and Daniel (Gayle McLeod) Rood. He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Dianne Rood Kiesz.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Jim's honor be made to the Museum of Wildlife, Science, and Industry or South Dakota Public Broadcasting (SDPB.org/give).
