Jacqueline Birney, 59, of Ortley died Tues., Jan. 28 at Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls.

On May 8th, 1960, a beautiful baby girl was born to Emmett & Jerena Blue Dog Roberts. She was named Jacqueline Leah Roberts by her father.

Jackie grew up in the Enemy Swim, Waubay, Ortley area and attended Waubay school. She went on to attend Lake Area Vo-tech where she received her LPN license in 1993. Then Jackie attended Sisseton Wahpeton College and received her RN license in 1994. She furthered her education at National American University and graduated with her Bachelor's degree in Nursing.

Jackie started her career at Woodrow Wilson Keeble Memorial Clinic in 2003 and became the Director of Nursing there in 2010-present.

Jackie married Rex A. Birney on November 18th, 1978 at St. James in Enemy Swim. Together they had 3 children: Tyler Rex Birney, Jamie Ray Birney and Danielle Leah

Birney Hinkelman. They became members of Ortley Free Lutheran  church and resided in Ortley, SD.

Jackie loved being a nurse, helping others, reading, shopping, getting her nails done, spending time with her friends and family and watching her grandchildren grow.

Jackie is survived by her husband Rex, sons Tyler and Jamie (Sarah), daughter Danielle (Cody), grandchildren Lindsey, Blu, Layne, Mason and Essence. And her siblings Sandra Melius (Lawrence KS & Sioux Falls, SD) Kurt Blue Dog (Wayzata, MN) Stephania Ross (Granite Falls, MN) Bridget Roberts (Sioux Falls, SD) Rachel Roberts (Watertown, SD) Roxanne Roberts (Watertown, SD) Kevin Roberts (Waubay, SD) and Michael Roberts (Prior Lake, MN) and numerous nieces, nephews and family members.

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents Emmett and Jerena, her siblings Keith V., Sheila, Keith K., Gwen, Gail & grandson Daniel.
