Godfrey Wika, 85, of Grenville, SD died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009 at Avera McKennan Hosptial, Sioux Falls.
Mass of Christian Burail will be 10:30 Monday, December 14, 2009 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Grenville. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 Sunday, December 13 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Grenville with a prayer service at 7:00.
Godfrey Peter Wika was born November 8, 1924, to Peter and Valeria (Kwasniewski) Wika on the family farm southwest of Grenville. He was Baptized and Confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He attended country school and began high school at St. Joseph's Catholic School. He had to leave high school to help out on the family farm.
Godfrey was afflicted with Schizophrenia in his mid twenties and suffered with it for the rest of his life. In spite of this illness he was the family historian with a brilliant memory for all details of past and present happenings of the Grenville area, it's people and his family.
He entered the Strand- Kjorsvig Rest Home in 2006.
Survivors include his two sisters, Florence Fleming of Florence and Frances (John) Boik of Cornville, Arizona, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and five brothers.
Godfrey will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
