Obituary

Dorothy Martin, 82, of Waubay, SD died Friday, April 30, 2010 at Bethesda Home, Webster.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, VA.

Dorothy was born on June 12, 1927 in the Bronx, NY, the daughter of John and Agnes (Kelly) Ryan. She attended High School in the Bronx. In 1944 she married 1st Lt. Gordon Connely USAAF who was later killed in action in Europe in 1945.

Dorothy was a Radio City Rockette in the late 1940's and later worked as a vocalist with Lee Castle's & the Jimmy Dorsey Band.

Dorothy married 1st SGT Joseph Martin, USMC in 1967 in New Rochelle, NY and they were stationed at various Marine Corps Posts until her husband retired in 1975 when they moved to South Dakota.

Dorothy suffered a stroke in 1984 which left her partly paralyzed, despite her handicap she was always cheerful and upbeat, enjoying her home, her Schnauser dogs and traveling.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband SGT Major (Ret) Joseph Martin USMC of Waubay, SD, one daughter; Pat of New York City, NY 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, one sister; Loretta Briedenbach of Bethelem, PA, her nieces, Sharon (Andrew) Espland, Karen (Michael) Stusiak, a nephew; Donald (Cindy) Miller all of Watertown, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son Peter.
