Obituary

Don Burns, 85, of Webster, SD died January 3, 2010 at Meritcare Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Christ The King Catholic Church with Fr. David Axtmann & Fr. Ron Garry officiating.

Visitation will be from 1:00 - 4:00 Tuesday at Coester Funeral Home, Webster. Visitation will resume again from 6:00 - 8:00 Tuesday at the church with a wake service at 7:00.

Don and his twin brother Ron were born on May 29, 1924 in Marvin, South Dakota to Fred & Cora (Kinsman). A child of the Great Depression, the family moved often picking up work & school where opportunity took them.

Leaving Webster High School during their senior year, Don & Ron joined the Navy. WWII service took him to both the Atlantic & Pacific Theaters. He was aboard a landing craft off the beach of Normandy on D-Day.

After his discharge from the Navy in the spring of 1946, Don returned to Webster. There a young Louise Erdmann caught his eye. They married on April 12, 1948 and enjoyed 62 years together.

Following his military service he worked for the telephone company, the post office & various other jobs to support his family.

Don enjoyed his family, church, gardening, canning, playing cards and story telling.

Don was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church and VFW Post #4690 Webster.

Grateful for having shared his life is his wife Louise of Webster, SD, 6 sons; David Burns, Tampa, FL, Mike (Candace) Burns, Rapid City, SD, Tom (Mary) Burns Woodbury, MN, Jim (Martha) Burns, Fargo, ND, Jerry (Holly) Burns, Sioux Falls, SD, Paul (Susan) Burns, West Memphis, AR, 5 daughters; Mary (Gordy) Klomps, Rochester, MN, Lunette (Royce) Grimsrud, Veblen, SD, Linda (Nat) Karlins, Fargo, ND, Ann (Mark) Mueller, Chamberlain, SD, Theresa (Arlyn) Wilke, Albion, NE, 41 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 sisters; Helen Arten, Webster, SD, Evelyn Ditmanson, Watertown, SD.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, one great granddaughter, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters.

In Lieu of flowers the family prefers masses to Christ The King Catholic Church 1101 E. 1st Street Webster, SD 57274 in memory of Don Burns.
