Angeline Gilbertson, 96, of Webster died Sunday, April 10 at Oakview Terrace, Freeman.
Angeline Caroline Horst was born on February 12, 1919, to Anton and Julia (Suchy) Horst in a log cabin on their homestead near Millerville, MN. In 1925 the family moved to a farm in Rusk Township near Webster. She grew up with 4 sisters and 5 brothers, and walked to school at Rusk Township School #106. Her 6th grade year she attended St. Otto's Parochial School in Webster. Angeline graduated from Webster High School in 1938, and she was a classmate with Myron Floren.
Angeline was employed at Wist Produce. On January 9, 1940 she married Rueben Gilbertson at the St. Otto's parish rectory in Webster, and they farmed in Libery Township northwest of Roslyn until 1960. Then they sold their farm and moved to Webster where Angeline worked at Red Owl, Gambles, for Frank Bartos at his filling station, and then was elected Day County Auditor which she served 14 years until retirement in 1986.
Angeline enjoyed gardening and visits from her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a longtime member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Webster.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers and 3 sisters, and her husband Rueben who died in August 9, 1989.
Angeline is survived by 3 sons and 1 daughter: Larry (Elaine) of Webster, David of Omaha, NE; Oliver of Sioux Falls, and Marilyn Ewoldt (Bill Weppler) of Sioux Falls. Also 6 grandchildren: Troy (Misti) Gilbertson of Waubay, Cathy (Brian) Roesler of Marion; Nancy Gilbertson of Watertown, and Gary Gilbertson of Webster; Steven Reed of Aurora, CO and Jim (April) Reed of Lead, SD; as well as her great grandchildren Riley and Cody Gilbertson, Titus Roesler, Jonnathon McCorkle, and Sophia Reed. Angeline is also survived by one sister, Regina Hagen of Sherman Oaks, CA.
