Alvin Breske, 76, of rural Waubay died Friday, May 21, 2010 at Jenkins Living Center, Watertown.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Waubay. Burial will be in Waubay Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7 Monday at Immaculate Conception Church, Waubay with a Wake Service at 7.
Al was born in Webster, SD on February 2nd, 1934 to
Felix and Clara Breske. He graduated from Webster High School and
went into the military serving in the United States Air Force from
December 1952 to December 1956 and is a veteran of the Korean War.
After an honorable discharge from the service, he worked as a depot
agent for the railroad for two years.
On June 14th, 1958, Al married his one, true love, Delores Drake. In
the fall, they returned to Waubay and began farming.
Through the years, Al did many things. He sold seed, satellite
dishes, P&C insurance, and finally crop insurance. He retired and sold
Breske Crop Insurance to his son, Tim and his son-in-law, Mike in 2000.
Al was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus and a Grand Knight. He was active in many church activities to include calling bingo,being a Eucharistic Minister, and a lector. He was President of the Waubay School Board, on the Egeland Township Board, Election Board,4-H Board, and a 4-H leader. He kept score and announced for the Waubay basketball games and was the sideline downs marker for 33 years.
Al enjoyed hunting, golfing, Vikings football and, most of all, his family. He spent all his available time attending sporting, music, and other events for his children and grandchildren.
Al is survived by his wife, Delores; 6 children, Tom (Donna)Breske of Prince Frederick, MD; Terry (Mike) Frederick of Waubay,SD; Mary Breske of Waubay, SD; Tim (Kim) Breske of Webster, SD;Donna (Mike) Price of Derby, KS; and Carol (Ryan) Rademacher of Sioux Falls, SD;
18 Grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and 1 great-granddaughter; 4 sisters, Grace
(Diz) Burns of Sioux Falls,SD; Ann Dylla of Litchfield, MN; Phyllis (Bob) Norris of Fort
Collins, CO; and Genie (Cecil) Hellyer of Milliken, CO; and 1
brother, Tony Breske of Sherburn, MN.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Alois and David; 2 sisters, Marie and Rita; and 2 sons, Alan and Johnny.
