Obituary

Albert Marvin Marcus was born February 14, 1938, in Greybull, Wyoming and died June 11, 2018, in Milbank, South Dakota.

Marvin was the son of Albert and Dorothy Marcus.  Marvin attended grade school in Greybull and graduated from Basin High School.  He attended the University of Wyoming for two years and then returned to Basin.

He worked for Gordon Sykes until he was hired by Marathon Pipeline Company where he worked for 35 years.  He married Dolores Vialpando on August 3, 1961.  The family lived in Basin, Powell, McFadden, and Meeteetse, Wyoming.  After his retirement from Marathon Pipeline he worked as a Pipeline Inspector covering the area from Cheyenne to Gillette. After his retirement he spent winters in Yuma, Arizona and summers in Wyoming and more recently spent summers in Canada with his friend Margaret Shannon.

Marvin was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Basin and in Powell. He loved to go camping and fishing with his family.  He enjoyed snowmobiling with his brothers and sons and their families both on the Big Horn Mountains and occasionally in Yellowstone National Park.  He also enjoyed rock hunting and helping Dolores build her rock gardens. While living in Meeteetse, Dolores called him the "Bridge Superintendent" as he would go down and watch construction progress on the bridge each day. He will be remembered for his sharp wit and his kindness to family and friends and his fun loving ways. Marvin always had a nickname for everyone from coworkers to siblings and grandchildren and even the nurses who cared for him.

Marvin is survived by two sons, Rick (Willie) Marcus of Ralston, Wyoming and Robert Marcus of San Diego, California; one daughter, Gloria (Brian) Lohre of Milbank, SD; six grandchildren, Amanda Marcus, Jamie Glen, JoDee Sanford, Lukian Sanford, Eric Lee and Lacy Lee; 10 great grandchildren; four siblings, Ronald (Merry) Marcus, Patsy (Melvin) Arndt, Janet Marcus, and Stephen Marcus; one sister-in-law Catherine Marcus and numerous nieces and nephews.
