Obituary

Adeline R. Jaskulka, 90, formerly of Grenville SD and Webster SD, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the Strand-Kjorsvig Home, Roslyn, SD.

On August 12, 1930, on her great-grandparents farm near Grenville, SD, Adeline Rosalia (Rose) Kurkowski was born to Andrew and Helen (Ewalt) Kurkowski.  She was welcomed by an older sister, Dorothy and an older brother, Leonard – to be joined later by sisters, Florence and Esther and a brother, James.

Adeline, her parents and her siblings survived through the Great Depression, the Dirty Thirties and the Dust Bowl, they also survived the immense misfortune of losing their farm home and all their belongings in a fire on July 9, 1936.  They then rented a farm near Waubay SD.

Adeline graduated from Waubay High School in 1948 and shortly after landed a job as a bookkeeper at the Security Bank, Webster SD, a position she held for 5 years.

Adeline met the love of her life, William "Bill" Jaskulka, at a house party when they were both 12 years old, of course, it took some years before they were united in marriage on October 27, 1953 at St Otto's Catholic Church, Webster SD.  Bill was inducted into the Army on December 7, 1953 and was stationed in Fort Riley KS for two years.  Adeline joined him shortly after he completed his basic training, where their first son, Robert, was born.

After Bill's discharge, they returned to South Dakota and rented a farm southeast of Pickerel Lake for a short time, in 1955 they purchased the homestead now owned by their son, Roger (Dawn) Jaskulka.  Together they journeyed through the next 51 years working the land, along with dairy and stock cattle and raising hogs.  Upon their retirement in 2006, they moved to Mom's dream home of the little yellow house on the corner in Webster SD.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Grenville SD and Christ the King Catholic Church, Webster SD.

Adeline's greatest joys in life were her family and friends, embroidery and sewing, cooking (she was constantly experimenting with new recipes) and gardening.  Although she was never a world traveler, an occasional trip to town for a piece of pie with Dad was not unheard of.

Adeline is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Bill; her children, Robert "Bob" (Karen) Jaskulka, Watertown SD, Jeanette "Jean" (Ronnie) Chmela, Mitchell SD, Sharon (Garrett) Rogers, Rice Lake WI and Roger (Dawn) Jaskulka, Grenville SD; Sisters, Florence (Ron) Davidson, Duluth MN and Esther (Robert) Kirchmeier, Vista CA; Brother, James (Marcia) Kurkowski, Webster SD; Sister-in-Law, Sally Stanley, Los Gatos CA; Grandchildren/step-grandchildren, Tricia (Brent) Cook, Tea SD; Colette (Sam) Schwartz, Tea SD; Tom Jaskulka, Tea SD; Kelly (Lacey) Boik, Grenville SD; Ashley Overweg, Sioux Falls SD; Christopher Rogers, Derrick (Elana) Rogers, Bryce(Kendra) Rogers, Natasha Rogers and Jared Rogers, all of Rice Lake WI; Kayla Kortleever (Kole Holman), Sisseton, SD; Chelsea (Derek) Vogel, Onaka SD; Cody (Kari) Jaskulka, Wilmot SD and Travis Jaskulka, Britton SD;numerous Great-Grandchildren/Step Great-Grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
